For a little over two years, I had the persona of Beowulf42 at www.cybertown.com, which purports to be a family oriented site based on 3D virtual reality, with a community government, stores, police force, and the usual stuff of real life. Just as in real life, there is constant bickering, behind the scenes intrigue, and power mongering. For all it's claims, the place could be wonderful, but more often than not, it is merely a facsimile real life with the incumbent clash of personalities.
In the two years I played around at this site, I have come to the conclusion that the people in charge of cybertown don't have a clue about what Justice Holmes said in his Supreme Court ruling. I have also come to the conclusion that the Swift quote is more fitting way to describe cybertown. Sometime during my second year in the place, I started keeping a journal of people and places and things in cybertown, which I came to call 3D World.
I don't think they'll ever click on the blue ribbon below, or truly
understand why it's important.
